The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly known as the Duomo of Florence, is an iconic landmark and a testament to the architectural and artistic genius of the Italian Renaissance. Located in the heart of Florence, it's a must-see for anyone visiting the city.
Construction began in 1296, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, to replace an older church, Santa Reparata. Florence, a thriving city at the time, sought to build a cathedral that would rival those in other Tuscan cities like Siena and Pisa, reflecting its wealth and power.
Duomo of Florence (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) is indeed part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was inscribed on the UNESCO list in 1982.
